Champion Coaching Next Door

The Ironman Curriculum is a complete curriculum for students eager to compete next year. The nation's best coaches wrote the curriculum with novice clubs in mind: to help clubs "train minds for action."

Clubs or individual students who adopt the Ironman Curriculum will receive the basics in all 10 speech events and either Team-Policy or Lincoln-Douglas debate. This is the idea of the "ironman": compete in at least five individual speech events and debate.

All authors have notable bios of past coaching and competitive excellence, several "Hall of Fame" competitors. Each module covers 12 weeks of teaching material that any coach can start teaching, no matter how novice or inexperienced. By January, you'll be fully trained for a stellar competitive season.

  1. Limited Prep - Students will be prepared to compete in any or all of limited-prep.
    • Apologetics - Curriculum written by Chap Bettis (pastor in Rhode Island)
    • Extemp - Curriculum written by Shane Baumgardner (Extemp Hall of Fame 2009)
    • Impromptu - Curriculum written by Shane Baumgardner (Impromptu Hall of Fame 2009 & 2010)
  2. Speech - Students will be prepared to compete in Platform and Interp, with a short introduction to limited-prep.
    • Limited-Prep - Curriculum written by Shane Baumgardner. This is a condensed "introduction" to limited-prep.
    • Platform - Curriculum written by Jonathan Krive (3-time Original Oratory Hall of Fame 2002, 2003 and 2004)
    • Interp - Curriculum written by Travis Herche (Dramatic Interp Hall of Fame 2006)
  3. Debate - Students will be prepared to compete in either Team-Policy or Lincoln-Douglas debate
    • Team-Policy - Curriculum written by Chris Jeub (President of Training Minds Ministry)
    • Lincoln-Douglas - Curriculum written by Samantha Nasser (3rd Place LD 2008)

Sample Schedule

The Ironman Curriculum may be taught at the coach's chosen time. We recommend allowing two hours to go through each module per week, plenty of time to get through the lesson with some healthy discussion. Students will complete their objectives within 12 weeks of lessons.

Students may sign up for 1, 2 or all 3 modules.
2 hours each session; 24 total instruction hours.
